Going back to moving between Enderal and Skyrim installs, though, one of the users on the Enderal forums seems to have streamlined the process a bit, as described in this thread. While it's still probably possible to manually manage it, I suspect the developers decided that there were enough moving parts that for most people it would be simpler to just have the launcher create a new installation for Enderal that was separate from the existing Skyrim installation. In addition to its ESM and the supporting BSA files it also incorporates a version of Skyrim Script Extender, and may also contain quite a few ini adjustments. This is normally how modding works in ES games, but Enderal is a bit different due to it being such an extensive total conversion. meaning moving shouldn't be required, unless you for some reason couldn't unplug the base ESM game ( which you should be able to, it's just a module). As I recall the modular system with the ESM/ ESP's is that you enable the ones you want and the saves keep track of which ones were active. If you don't use any custom resources in your mod, you don't need a data folder or BSA for your mod. I've worked extensively with ESPs and BSAs (more recently than rtcvb32, apparently) and can tell you that the ESP and ESM carry nothing in them. BSA files (these are literally Bethesda Softworks Archives, which are packaged up DATA folders with directories for every texture, model and sound in the game/mod). The resources is contained in the data folders or in the corresponding.

I would suspect (haven't tried it yet) that Enderal does something on those lines - for instance ENB series dlls, and so its safest to make a backup of the original files - your should *always* do this when modding anyway. Thus in doing so more or less invalidate the install. which can drastically alter the game engine.

However some mods can physically modify exe's, change out dll's etc. The ESM/ESP's are packages, so can contain textures, code, locations etc. Nightcraw1er.488: Yes, that really shows what people to understand as mods. To also note, for this game, as its steam only that makes portablizing it next to impossible. One thing to try is to have two installs of Skyrim, used to work on older games but I know newer ones are linked via the registry (which is a real pain and one of the reasons they can't be portabilised easily).

Yes, that really shows what people to understand as mods. So while switching between Enderal and Skyrim is quite doable, it's probably not something you'd want to be doing on a regular basis.Īs a side note, I've just spent the last few hours playing Enderal, and so far it's really spectacular.

You'll also need to manage the saves carefully, since they both point to the same folder by default (so quicksaves and auto-saves will overwrite each other between Skyrim and Enderal if you aren't careful).

When switching back to Skyrim you may also need to re-enable all your mods (definitely want to be using a mod manager). can you freely switch back and forth between the two while Enderal is installed? You can, but it takes a bit of time for each switch, since what the launcher is doing is basically moving around the entire Skyrim and Enderal folders. GR00T: Just as a point of clarification, Darrk, does this mean you can play Enderal, switch back to Skyrim to continue an existing playthrough on that, then switch back to Enderal again and keep doing so? i.e.
